Project Details
Description
Low temperature fuel cells offer the means of producing efficient and clean electric power but many challenging and fundamental questions about the nano-properties of the electrodes and the nature of the electrolyte need to be addressed. Aims: Platinum nano-clusters will be deposited on porous carbon to form electrocatalysts that will be combined with nanocomposite electrolyte membranes to produce a new class of proton exchange membrane (PEM)fuel cells. Significance: Tailoring the depth profile and particle size of the deposited platinum and use of nanocomposite electrolyte material will increase fuel cell efficiency and reduce costs of manufacture. Expected outcomes: A new PEM fuel cell to implement the hydrogen economy.
