Project Details
Description
This project aims to achieve a quantum leap in the level of understanding of earthquake hazard in Indonesia. It will achieve this through a collaboration of Australian and Indonesian scientists who will quantify the level of strain energy accumulating in the Indonesian crust, how this energy is released in large earthquakes, and how it is transmitted and amplified by local geology. This will be achieved through the acquisition of new data targeted to fill important knowledge gaps. Analysis of these new and existing data in an integrated program will deliver new seismic hazard information in a form that can be readily utilised for earthquake disaster risk reduction in Indonesia.
