Project Details
Description
This project aims to reframe understandings of gender and climate change in Oceania. Through ethnography, textual and visual analysis we will research the interaction between indigenous and introduced knowledge and experience of climate change. Challenging portraits of Pacific peoples, especially women, as vulnerable victims, we will highlight indigenous knowledge, agency and future visions in everyday lives and politics. Climate change is a pressing reality in Oceania acknowledged as a priority by all its leaders. Benefits envisaged are greater understanding, enhanced international collaboration and better policies and practices to redress the effects of climate change in both Oceania and Australia.
