Project Details
Description
The emergence of highly virulent strains of the stripe rust fungus worldwide is a grave threat to global wheat production. Severe disease epidemics arise due to the rapid breakdown of host plant genetic resistance by the fast evolving rust pathogen. This project investigates the causes of resistance breakdown through in-depth investigation of the molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen recognition, and the consequences of pathogen variation. With the knowledge acquired, the project aims to implement innovative strategies for durable rust resistance to maintain global food security.
