Expanding ANU capabilities in trace element analysis and quantitative imaging with Tandem Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) - Laser ablation ICPMS (LA-ICPMS)

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

We request an upgrade to existing instrumentation for a Tandem-LIBS-LAICPMS system to expand research and training capability in analysis and quantitative distribution mapping (imaging) of elements in solid matrices at gg-1 levels and micron resolution. This is a novel integration of mature methodology which adds the ability to simultaneously analyse the light elements (H, C, N, S etc.) that have not been accessible by LA-ICPMS, but are critical for many fundamental processes on Earth. The new instrumentation will be transformative for a wide range of strategic and transdisciplinary research and supercharge ANUs ambitions in critical mineral research and plant science.
