    Project Details

    Description

It is aimed to study the bahaviour of Zr in the crust and mantle - Firstly, the trace Zr (Th,U) substitution in common metamorphic silicates and oxides such that their breakdown can be correlated with zircon growth. This will enable us to directly correlate and thus date specific parts of a metamorphic P-T-t cycle with zircon growth. Secondly, by constructing a petrogenetic grid for Ti-Zr-mineral stabilities in the crust and mantle we will be able to better define pressure-temperature conditions for metacarbonates, kimberlite-carbonatite assemblages as well as SYNROC nuclear waste disposal assemblages in the shallow crust.
