Project Details
Description
The understanding of deep recycling processes in subduction zones to form volcanic arcs and new continental crust remains limited. This project aims to resolve key controversies related to volatile and trace element recycling in subduction zones at the slab-mantle interface below volcanic arcs, i.e at 80-150 km depth. The nature and composition of subduction zone fluids and their interaction with the mantle wedge will be investigated by using new and innovative piston cylinder techniques and high pressure rocks as natural laboratories. Special emphasis will be placed on the subduction-related recycling of CO2, an important parameter to constrain the long-term evolution of the Earth s climate.
