Project Details
Description
The aim of this project is to map variations in seismic wave speed in the crust and upper mantle beneath eastern Victoria and south east Tasmania by deploying large arrays of seismic instruments to record distant earthquakes. 3-D tomographic images produced from these data sets will help delineate major structural features associated with the formation of the Lachlan Orogen. Combined with previous data sets, the new data sets complete the high density seismic coverage of south east Australia, and permit a 3-D regional map of unprecedented resolution to be constructed.
