    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

We seek to understand the processes operating in the interstellar medium (ISM) which influence the formation and evolution of galaxies. We will study the impact of radio-jets and fast winds from Active Galactic Nuclei on the ISM of their host galaxies. We will investigate triggered star formation and starburst driven winds in the formation of both proto-galaxies and their satellites. To do this we will develop new, and extend existing, theoretical models and codes, for both large scale simulations in 3D, and anyalytical theory. We have an ambitious multi-wavelength observational program designed to both inform and to test theory - which will put Australian astrophysics at the forefront of this important field.
