    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

This proposal covers the necessary equipment to complete the full-scale SABRE South detector system to detect dark matter via nuclear recoil in the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory (SUPL). The first stage of the SABRE South detector, funded by a previous LIEF, is currently under construction. This proposal will fund the addition of the most radio-pure sodium-iodide crystals ever made and shielding from the background with layers of lead, copper and polyethylene. The Southern Hemisphere location and the new ultra-pure crystals are a crucial advantage in the search for dark matter via direct detection and will allow an independent of test the most persistent and enigmatic signal in the world-wide dark matter detection effort.
