Halting Australia's mammal declines: a demographic, ecological and genetic approach to fire response in native animals

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

The overarching goal of this PhD project is to discover the mechanistic response of small mammal populations to fire in northern Australia. Through a combination of field research, genetic data and computer simulations, this novel study will advance our understanding of how animals respond to fire, as well as developing the use of genetic analyses in disturbance ecology. This research will provide valuable information for the fire management strategies of the Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC), and contribute to conservation decisions for the rapidly declining mammal fauna of northern Australia.
