Harnessing the Nucleolar Surveillance Response to Treat Disease

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

The subcellular compartment termed the nucleolus is the site of synthesis and assembly of the ribosomal subunits, these are essential for synthesizing cellular proteins. The nucleolus has evolved as a sentinel to sense stress in order to orchestrate cellular decisions about cellular fate. This proposal will investigate the molecular mechanisms controlling this stress pathway in order to develop new treatments for diseases such as ribosomopathies and cancer where it is aberrantly regulated.
