Highly accurate point-of-care home-use breath acetone sensor for diagnosing diabetic ketoacidosis

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

This funding is aimed at supporting the development of the semiconductor breath acetone sensing technology, that has been integrated into a hand-held prototype device called the Ketowhistle. The current technology is at a TRL level of 3. This funding would support the optimization of the sensor and human calibration phase to evaluate its performance and elevate its TRL level to 4-5. The aim is to assess the medical application of this technology as a home-care non-invasive and reusable diabetes detection system to save lives by detecting life-threatening Diabetic Ketoacidosis.
