    Description

    The broad aim of this project is to define a novel mechanism that regulates seed size in plants and potential manipulation of this mechanism in crop plants. We understand almost nothing about how plants regulate seed size, more specifically endosperm size. We have established a novel genetic approach to understand imprinting and regulation of seed size that was previously not possible. Regulation of seed size is an important determinate of grain yield, export revenue for Australia and global food security. The anticipated outcomes of this project are; Increased understanding of a seed size regulating mechanism, Genetic material and knowledge to enhance seed yield, Identification of new imprinting genes and regulatory pathways.
