Implications of culture independent diagnostic testing (CIDT) on enteric disease surveillance in Australia

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

The project will consist of seven components as described below:Conduct a rapid review of the literature on the status of the impact of CIDT on enteric disease surveillance internationally;Consult with OzFoodNet sites and public health reference laboratories to identify current status of CIDT for Salmonella and other organisms;Collect and analyse data to determine the current impact of CIDT on public health surveillance for foodborne disease in Australia;Identify representative costs of specimen transport, culturing and reference typing of Salmonella for serotyping, multi locus variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) and Whole Genome Sequencing;Identify costs of Salmonella typing using different scenarios for characterisation of isolates;Estimate likely uncertainty around estimates using Monte Carlo simulation; andDiscuss the impacts of CIDT on other enteric pathogens under public health surveillance.
