Informal Life Politics in Northeast Asia: New Perspectives on Social Transitions from Cold War to Post Cold War

Since the end of the 1970s, Northeast Asia has been in prolonged transition from Cold War to post-Cold War order. What forms of social contestation are accompanying that transition, and what impact will they have on the region's future? This research addresses these questions through a distinctive conceptual framework, focusing on grassroots action to protect health and livelihoods as the relationship between state and citizens undergoes profound historical change. Through cross-border research, it will advance scholarship on social transformations and Area Studies, strengthen Australia's research excellence in Northeast Asian Studies, and enrich knowledge of a region of central importance to Australia's well-being and security.
