Project Details
Description
The future of representative democracy is challenged by growing levels of civic disengagement. This project examines state responses to this disengagement in three countries with different institutional structures and political traditions, Australia, the UK and Denmark, and across three policy areas: environment; immigration and youth. It will audit any moves towards greater citizen engagement, account for any differences in these developments between our 3 countries and across our 3 policy areas, and assess how far any changes represent a genuine move by the state towards greater levels of political participation/citizen engagement in the policymaking process, or, instead, an attempt by governments to legitimise decisions already taken.
