Integration of biochar into integrated assessment models A pathway forward

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

Biochar is a key carbon dioxide removal method that has the potential to be deployed at gigatonne scale. To fully evaluate its impact, it is essential to incorporate biochar into integrated assessment models (IAMs) as used by the IPCC to consider socio-economic, earth-system, and agricultural dimensions. In this project, key considerations for such integration are explored and a pathway forward proposed. The outcome/deliverable is a scientific publication outlining such thinking in collaboration with national and international collaborators of the Task 45 team of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy.
