Islam and Islamic Law in Regional Indonesia

To establish how the key mass Muslim organisations, NU, Muhammadiyah, Persis and al-Washliyah, define Islam and syariah law in regional Indonesia and how these definitions relate to the new Law on Regional Autonomy (Law No.22/1999). The definitions will be based on decisions concerning the interpretation of syariah made by district branches of the mass organisations when they address issues of local concern. The definitions will provide descriptions of regional Islams and form the basis for mapping the process and substance of syariah implementation in regional Indonesia.
