Project Details
Description
This project demonstrates how Japanese environmental activism has shaped attitudes and policies on the environment within Japan and globally since 1945. It examines historical phases of environmental protest, advocacy, and volunteerism that influenced decisions Japanese leaders and citizens made about the economy, human welfare, and ecological sustainability. Adopting a global-historical perspective, the project evaluates the impact of Japanese environmental activism on global debates and movements for environmental justice, sustainable development, and industrial pollution control. A key objective of the project is to demonstrate the evolution, the strengths, and the weaknesses of Japan's predominantly human-centered environmentalism.
