Project Details
Description
This review should involve a search of legislative databases and relevant government and academic literature (including reports such as the NSW Ombudsman (2016) review of consorting laws modernised in 2012). The AIC can assist by identifying relevant academic literature that has been identified for related projects. It may also be necessary to draw upon media reports and court records relating to high profile cases for examples of how the legislation has been used. The rationale for this project is twofold. The first, and more immediate need for the research, is to inform related quantitative studies into the effects of legislative responses on crime involving OMCGs, including spatial displacement. Second, there is significant interest in the legislative responses to OMCGs, how this legislation has been used, barriers to effective enforcement of the legislation, and how the legislation in Australia varies between jurisdictions.
