Project Details
Description
This project aims to address large uncertainties in Australias hydroclimate projections by reconstructing Australian monsoon variability since 3 million years ago. By uniquely integrating palaeoclimate data with probabilistic statistics and state-of-the-art climate modelling, the project expects to generate new knowledge to quantify the frequency and amplitudes of extreme rainfall and drought in Northwest Australia. Expected outcomes of this project will improve tropical climate models and projections, and provide climatic context for Australian archaeology. These should significantly benefit climate adaptation and mitigation, and our understanding of Australian pre-history.
