    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

Population ageing is driving growth in dementia and cognitive decline prevalence. Lifestyle changes and preventive health care targeting known risk factors can reduce risk of dementia and cognitive decline. We will create and evaluate the effectiveness of MaintainYourBrain (MYB) in reducing rate of cognitive decline in 55-75 yrs over 4 years. MYB will be a community-based internet-administered intervention with modules targeting modifiable cognitive risk factors: physical inactivity, cognitive inactivity, obesity, depression, smoking, excess alcohol, insulin resistance/diabetes, hypertension & hyperlipidaemia. Of 260,000 45 and Up study participants >150,000 are 55-75. The Sax Institute estimates that 60% of 45 will agree to complete risk profile and data questionnaires; >60% will be online; 1/2 will agree to be in study; >75% will have at > 1 risk factor (n = 20,000) who will be randomised to intervention and control groups.
