Description
The study of many-body quantum nature of ultracold atoms is a challenging problem of fundamental interest. Present techniques of magneto-optical trapping, manipulating ultracold atoms on atom chips and in optical lattices, and coherent Raman transitions between different atomic states enable the coupling between different modes of ultracold atomic systems. This project will investigate many-body quantum effects in the physics of ultracold atoms occupying multiple modes, explore the classical-quantum correspondence for nonlinear phenomena exhibited by these systems, and propose possible schemes for quantum technologies utilizing many-body quantum effects.
