Project Details

Description

This application aims to fund an innovative spectrograph for "MAVIS" - a ground-breaking Australian-ledinstrument for the European Southern Observatory (ESO), enabled by the current $120M 10-year Australia-ESOstrategic partnership. MAVIS leverages ESOs $40M investment in its unique Adaptive Optics Facility, and $30Mof European funding for MAVIS itself. MAVIS will give the sharpest, most sensitive optical view of the cosmosever, exceeding the capabilities of any ground- or space-based telescope in existence, or planned for the comingdecade. The capabilities enabled by this funding will make MAVIS an essential tool for discoveries across a broadrange of science prioritised by the Australian astronomy communitys 10-year strategic plan
