Description
Algorithmic war captures the shift towards digital forms of combat. Historically, society has anchored its memories of war to the body. Bodies are vital figures in the remembrance and representation of past wars: injured, bloodied, disfigured, tortured, and deceased bodies provided the foundation to express never again; empowering anti-war sentiments, nuclear non-proliferation treaties, and/or demilitarization. However, as emerging technology permits increasingly disembodied forms of warfare (displacing risk as an element of combat) the roles of humans in battle become invisible, fragmented, and depoliticized. Our project examines the space for war memories absent wounded bodies.
