Microscopic many-body new approaches for fundamental science and applications

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

The transition from the quantum world (of coherent superpositions) to the macroscopic world (of irreversible outcomes) is a profound problem in fundamental science. It impacts our understanding of interactions of composite systems like molecules and atomic nuclei, and underpins future nanoscale technologies. My leadership and new ideas in microscopic quantum many-body theory will be combined with Australian leadership in experimental nuclear reaction dynamics. A new paradigm for nuclear collisions will be developed, applicable to other composite systems. Research and training capacity in a strategic area will be enhanced, as will international links. This project will allow Australia to lead the world in a new area of scientific endeavour.
