Project Details
Description
Cluster computers constructed usign commodity components are widely used within the e-science community. Originally these systems were constructed of largely identical computers, however, the modern cluster is much more of a heterogenous system expnading to incorporate the latest technology as funds become available. This project will develop intelligent runtime environments for these systems that are capable of selecting where best to execute a users' application code based on cost benefit considerations. The potential of using virtual operating systems to allow live migration of running application processes between nodes in hte cluster, and as a means of tailoring the operating system to particular applications will also be investigated.
