Novel light-controlled liquid-crystal-based metamaterials for dynamic wave control

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

The project aims to develop a novel approach for creation of dynamic metamaterialswith optically addressed liquid crystals (LC). The main idea is to utilize the light-inducedorder modification (LIOM) mechanisms for recording peculiar phase patterns in an LCmedium integrated with dielectric metasurfaces with periods less than the wavelength ofelectromagnetic waves to be controlled. Such patterns include subwavelength gratings thatcould work as a birefringent wave-plate or periodic planar chiral metamaterials for circularpolarization conversion and modulation, which will allow for fast switching of light beampolarization states.
