    Project Details

    Description

The oceans are becoming increasingly acidic due to the uptake of carbon dioxide from rapidly rising greenhouse gas emissions. We will show how the oceans carbonate chemistry is changing and its effects in reducing the calcification rates of marine dwelling organisms. We will also determine whether the oceans biologic pump and overturning circulation that is responsible for sequestering carbon dioxide into the deeper oceans is diminishing because of greenhouse driven changes in climate change and the role of El-Nino events in increasing levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
