Open Justice in the Digital Age - Rights of Children in the Criminal Justice System

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

There is a clear need for empirical research to inform professionals, practitioners and policymakers in the area of childrens rights, open courts and the digital age. Indeed, Lady Hale, the President of The UK Supreme Court presenting the inaugural Nuffield Foundation Annual Lecture, discussed challenges in the justice system in the UK and advocated for more use of empirical research in the justice system (2018). The findings are expected to consider from the perspective of professionals how best a balance between the interests of open justice, freedom of the press and the rights of children involved in criminal proceedings can be struck in the digital age of evolving technologies and social media practices.
