Project Details
Description
Gravitational waves are emitted by the most violent events in the universe. Like high energy physics projects, gravitational wave detection involved giant multi million dollar infrastructure research facilities. This project will develop ideas and equipment which will enhance the performance of the next generation of laser interferometer based detectors. In so doing, Australia will gain access to an international facility, the US LIGO facility, the technology it develops and the data it generates. The success of the work should result in Australia being given responsibility to deliver and install the equipment on LIGO during the period of 2004-2006.
