Description
This research examines key aspects of the chemistry of Venus and Earth. It establishes a sound basis for comparing the two planets, which have (or had) many similarities although Venus is now a "runaway greenhouse," and it provides insight into their evolution. Expected innovations: - first global-scale Venus middle atmosphere chemical transport model - first full model of Venus cloud layer photochemistry - improved model for Earth's ozone chemistry Expected results: - substantive science role in Europe's Venus spacecraft mission - quantitative understanding of Venus middle atmosphere chemistry - improved understanding of Venus' evolution - resolution of long-standing issues regarding Earth ozone chemistry
