This project aims to explore innovative concepts in the fields of photonics and nanotechnology. Quantum dots and photonic crystals offer the opportunity to engineer the density of states of electrons and photons, respectively, allowing one to obtain high performance and new functionality optoelectronic devices. This research has the potential to make a major impact in the fields of computers, communications, defence, environmental and biological sensing. This project has the potential to develop novel technologies of both fundamental and applied interest.
