Planning for storage reserve adequacy and depletion risk in high-renewables power systems

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

This project asks how energy storage can be planned and managed to maintain reliability during periods of system stress in high-renewables power systems. Focusing on the WA SWIS, the project will combine analytics, operational back-casting, and stakeholder engagement to understand storage depletion risk, recharge sufficiency, and the incentives that drive storage behaviour. The aim is to develop practical storage adequacy metrics, defensible planning assumptions, and decision guidance for grid planners.
