Project Details
Description
Second-order optical nonlinearity (SON) has been recently generated in silica-based materials using different poling techniques, but the SON is either too small or unstable, and thus has no practical merit. A superior and novel technique will be developed through this project to produce stable and large SON in silica-based thin films. Such materials are perfect for fabricating cheap and efficient integrated electro-optic devices, which have significant application in optical telecommunication. Prototypes of the devices will also be fabricated, and the physical mechanism of the SON of the films will be clarified in this project.
