Project Details
Description
In Western Australia, the installed capacity ofrooftop solar PVin the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) now exceeds1100 MWorapproximatelythree times the size of the largest power stationon the system, with the capacity to serve over 45% of the underlying demand in the system at certain times. The rate of PV adoption in the SWIS is expected to continue to increase as customers connect DER in an unconstrained manner. Every month around 20MW of solar generation is added to the SWIS.As a result we now have the high penetration of DER presents both an opportunity to integrate DER into the energy system in a way that allows for customers and the power system to maximise its benefits and lower system costs, but also a significant risk to the stability of the power system at times of low system demand if left unmanaged.
