Public Political Criticism in Contemporary Vietnam

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

Political criticism in Vietnam has become significantly more public and potentially a major influence in the country's political system. Yet this development has received little scholarly attention. To help remedy that deficiency, this project analyzes a wide range of political complaints and protests in contemporary Vietnam. It also compares them to similar phenomena earlier in Vietnam's modern history and in other Communist Party states in recent times. The result will be a much fuller understanding of the political dynamics in Vietnam. The study will also contribute to generalizations about the impact of public criticism on, and the evolution of political movements in, authoritarian regimes.
