Pure and applied nuclear structure research with radioactive ion beams at CARIBU

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

New experimental programs at the CARIBU radioactive ion beam facility will be initiated to solve both practical and fundamental problems in nuclear science. Our prominent role in these developments will lay the groundwork for future access to the large international radioactive ion beam facilities that will be commissioned towards the end of this decade. The focus of the new programs will be on neutron-rich nuclei that are not only a testing ground for nuclear models, but are important for our understanding of stellar nucleosynthesis as well as providing key data on nuclei that have been identified as important for the design and safe operation of nuclear reactors using next generation fuels.
