Project Details
Description
Different water masses in the oceans have well defined physico-chemical characteristics, as well as carry specific clays, gathered mostly from their place of formation. Dr Gingele has applied knowledge of clay mineralogies in the Atlantic Ocean to define past environmental changes there. We wish to have him transfer his expertise to the ANU where we carry extensive work on deep-sea cores from the Northwest Shelf. This area is crucial for understanding the Throughflow of water from the Pacific into the Indian Ocean, and has direct relevance to the history of the Global Ocean and climate in our region.
