Project Details
Description
Australias climate belts are shifting, but it is unclear from short instrumental records if the impacts on tropical andtemperate rainfall will be permanent. This project aims to give essential context to recent climate belt shiftsthrough targeted generation of past climate records, integrated with rich new palaeoclimate databases, to assesshow natural and human-induced changes during the past 1,000 years impacted Australias rainfall zones.Specialised climate model simulations will add impact in determining the extent to which future rainfall changescould be mitigated by greenhouse gas reduction. The project outcomes will aid policy decisions and guideinvestment in mitigation strategies to secure Australias precious water resources.
