Description
At the heart of all experimental physics lies the detector. These devices range from the huge instruments of particle physics to the humble photodiode. Regardless of the size of the experiment, physicists depend on their detectors to bridge the gap between nature and observation. This proposal aims to arm Australian researchers with a new type of cutting edge detector capable of measuring the quantum properties of ultra-cold atoms. The implementation of these detectors will dramatically broaden the scope of fundamental and applied research in the emerging science of Quantum-Atoms Optics.
