Description
The emerging field of quantum technology is predicted to become a $4 billion industry in Australia and provider of 16,000 new jobs by 2040. Many of the benefits that Australia expects quantum technologies to offer us, such as secure data transmission or fast computing performance, stem from the little understood property termed quantum entanglement the phenomenon where quantum particles can be linked such that changing one will instantly change the other, even if they are separated by a large distance. A foundational understanding of entanglement is crucial to the development of quantum devices. This proposal will use cutting edge methods in quantum technology to investigate little-known basic properties of entanglement and produce fundamental knowledge that will guide the Australian industrys development of new quantum technologies, for example in the design of quantum computers.
