    Description

    Malaria, dengue, Zika and chikungunya are the most significant vector-borne diseases (VBDs) globally. These VBDs are spatially heterogeneous, with the distribution of infections characterized by disease clusters, or hotspots. Bhutan and Timor-Leste in Asia, and the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the Pacific region report significant number of VBDs.To address these challenges, operational research will be carried out with the following aims:i. To evaluate existing health information management systems (HIMS) for vector-borne diseases (VBDs) in order to recommend improvements in health reporting system;ii. To develop spatial decision support systems (SDSS) as tools for operational data management in VBDs;iii. To establish the optimal approach to integration of risk mapping into the SDSS framework;iv. To assist selected countries in operationalizing SDSS for VBDs of major public health importance.
