Project Details
Description
We will use the latest species delimitation methods to finally resolve the taxonomy of two exceptionally challenging genera of Australiangeckos: Heteronotia and Gehyra. Through detailed analysis of gene flow at contact zonescombined with data on pheromones, morphologyand ecologywe will delimit and describe >20 new species. Our newly described species will immediately feed into the ASH Species List andthe Australian Faunal Directory. We will assess the conservation status of new taxa, including many small-range endemics, and createelectronic tools to help others identify these difficult taxa in the field. Finally, our project will train three ECR taxonomists, including twostudents, building Australia's capacity for taxonomic research.
