Return of Cultural Heritage (ROCH) program

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

This research design has been informed by recent scholarship undertaken by First Nations cultural practitioners experienced in engaging with museum and collection archives. It applies innovative collection research approaches to existing data structures and hierarchies which reflect Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing. These new approaches are in service to the Indigenous cultural material that populate collections, as well as the Indigenous agency present in relationships of exchange. Research outputs are thus cognisant of the different worldviews of the users and stakeholders which include both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and communities, and the inter-cultural spaces in between where important and contemporary cultural work is being undertaken today.
