Revealing the Deep Earth in Deep Time

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

At the end of the first 25% of Earth's history, the interior underwent the most fundamental change since the planet formed This project aims to determine the nature of this chemical and dynamical transformation. This will provide a new understanding of the related establishment of modern surface features such as extensive continents and an oxygenated atmosphere, as well as investigate causal relationships with west Australias mineral resources. The expected outcome of investigation of this episode, using a multidisciplinary approach, is a transformation in the Earth Sciences away from an assumed simple >4 billion year progressive chemical-thermal evolution, to an evolution punctuated by a game-changing adolescent event.
