Socio-Psychological Factors and Compliance with Work Health and Safety Regulation - Theory, Policy and Practice

Work health and safety regulation is crucial for securing action to prevent work-related death, injury and illness. This project will investigate how compliance with work health and safety regulation is influenced by regulatees' motivations, attitudes, knowledge, social norms and other socio-psychological factors. The aim is to construct a coherent theory of compliance that integrates empirical evidence and existing theories that currently populate multiple discrete literatures. Drawing on data from small and medium enterprises, and from regulators, the findings and theoretical framework provided by this project will help to strengthen the capacity of regulators to elicit compliance and improve work health and safety outcomes.
