Description
Humans have admired and studied symmetry for thousands of years, incorporating ideas of symmetry into art, music, philosophy, science, and especially mathematics. Historically, the mathematical study of symmetry has had a tremendous influence on many diverse kinds of human innovation, including physics, chemistry, engineering and materials science. With the rapid development of computer science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, the mathematical study of symmetry promises to be an essential part of research in the twenty-first century. This project will use cutting-edge ideas from a wide variety of areas together in new ways, with the goal of deepening Australian expertise in this essential part of modern science. By bringing new tools into some of the deepest and most fundamental parts of modern mathematics, the project has the potential to strengthen Australia's positi
