Project Details
Description
Novel mathematical and statistical methods and software will be developed to tackle the ongoing challenges in understanding the complex genomic data produced by modern high-throughput technologies. Huge quantities of data are being generated, and to be fully utilised these need to be properly analysed and interpreted. This research will concentrate on two major projects: i) generation of new mathematical and statistical results leading to improved methods for matching gene and protein sequences, and ii) improving physical modelling of DNA hybridization, principally in the context of microarray technology, and hence determining superior statistical techniques for accurately measuring gene expression in cells.
